How to apply

Most problems trace back to one step: cleaning. Get the metal truly bare and both products do the rest.

Cool-Amp silver plating powder

You'll need a steel wire brush or abrasive cloth, clean water and a soft cloth.
  1. Prep Step 01 Prep Remove all oils before plating. Polish the oxidation of the copper, brass or bronze with a sharp steel wire brush or abrasive cloth. Wipe away all dust and debris from polishing.
  2. dip into cool-amp Step 02 dip into cool-amp Dip a slightly damp, clean cloth in the powder.
  3. Rub on Cool-Amp Step 03 Rub on Cool-Amp Rub firmly for about 15–30 seconds, until the surface turns from a dull, cloudy white to a lightly polished silver.
  4. Rinse and wipe dry Step 04 Rinse and wipe dry Rinse thoroughly with a clean cloth and clean water. Wipe with a clean, dry cloth. The part is now ready for service.

Hints for tricky parts

  • 01Oily or greasy parts: wash with a strong detergent (e.g., dishwasher soap) to remove all oils before plating.
  • 02Threaded studs and irregular shapes: clean with a soft paste of table salt and vinegar on a toothbrush. Wash it off completely before plating.
  • 03Hard-to-reach areas: mix Cool-Amp with water to a toothpaste consistency. Apply with a toothbrush on threaded studs, or with a rag wrapped around a thin wood paddle between switch clips.

Conducto-Lube

Conducto-Lube is primarily a lubricant. It keeps proper tension on conducting hinge joints and prevents galling and freezing. Applied right, it gives a smooth-operating, highly conductive joint.

Use it sparingly More Conducto-Lube does not add lubrication or conductivity. Apply just enough to thinly cover the surfaces. 8 oz covers about 3,840 in² (27 ft²).
  1. 01Mix the jar fully. If separation occurs, stir thoroughly to the bottom of the jar to ensure the silver and lubricant are fully mixed. Incomplete mixing may leave excess silver and insufficient lubricant at the bottom of the jar.
  2. 02Dismantle the equipment.
  3. 03Optional: silver-plate the contact areas with Cool-Amp first.
  4. 04Apply a thin coat to each surface, just enough to cover the areas that meet.
  5. 05Assemble under light pressure and operate by hand until the contact areas are evenly covered.
  6. 06Tighten to the manufacturer's specifications.
  7. 07Check by hand that the assembly operates smoothly.
